If one or other of the divorced parents has since remarried usually the custom dictates that the new spouse should be invited to the wedding. However, if the new partner was the obvious cause of the parents’ marriage break up then out of respect to the injured party only the real parent should be invited. If this causes resentment you can compensate by inviting that parent and the new partner for dinner and a few drinks soon after the wedding. Remember that this is your big day and it should be planned out in such a manner that would cause no unnecassary friction or tension between the families and guests. The last thing you want at your lovely reception is a fight between the family members.

In a region or country where good weather can be virtually guaranteed at certain times of year outdoor weddings are always a big hit. However, don’t plan an outdoor wedding anywhere in the world where the weather might spoil the day. Please remember, there are months in which it can rain very hard even in locations we Europeans consider exotic and tropical like Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. If you’re a complete romantic and really want to have an outdoor wedding then make sure you have a back up plan and an indoor alternative to switch to in case of a heavy rainfall.

The choice of best man is a very important one becasue there is a lot more to being a best man than merely making a funny speech. Although the groom’s first choice may be his best buddy from the pub or his younger hippy brother they may not be the best candidates. To avoid their dissapointment you might want to assign them another key role in the wedding, like reading a poem or singing a song during the entertainment. For the important role of your best man choose someone dependable and well organised. Many grooms these days opt for a best woman mainly becasue women are generally better organisers and usually take weddings a bit more seriously.

Extra precautions should be taken to secure the safety of your guests. In any case, it’s a good idea to get someone responsible to look after the animal at all times. In addition, don’t forget to check with the manager or the owners of the ceremony premises if animals are allowed.

As the newlyweds leave the service ceremony it is traditional that family and guests throw confetti at the blessed couple. Confetti may come in all shapes and sizes, you would be surprised at what you can buy these days. Basic coloured paper horseshoe, bell shapes, rice, or dried rose petals are commonly used in today. All of these symbols of good luck. Sometimes you can order confetti with the pictures of the young couple printed on it. If you decide to use confetti please check with your church or venue whether they are ok with that, as some may worry about cleaning it up afterwards. They are more likely to say yes to biodagradable materials.

Decorating your venue can be quite a big task depending on the size of the venue and the number of your guests. The co-ordinator of your wedding venue should be able to help you with all the sitting arrangements and decorations, or at least give you some good suggestions. If you’re looking for an inspiration, a good place to start would be the internet or dedicated wedding magazines. If you are having a theme wedding, matching the venue and decorations to the theme might be a bit challenging. Remember that flowers always look beautiful on tables and it is a good idea to move your flowers from your ceremony to the reception.

It is usually cut by the newlyweds right after the wedding dinner. These days you can serve whather type of cake you want. Tiered fruit cakes are very popular, but also chocolate cakes and sponge make very good choices. Some fruit cakes take a long time to mature so it is best to order them a few days before the actual event. Your wedding cake should be nicely decorated to make it look special. It should also be large enough to share it with everyone present at the reception.

Buying alcohol for your wedding reception can be quite a challange. The amount and types of alcohol to buy and serve may very depending on your cultural traditions, your guest list, and their individual drinking habits. On average you should allow for one or two glasses of sherry, champagne or wine for each guest as an aperitif. During the meal allocate each guest three to four glasses of wine, and one or two glasses of champagne, as well as one litre of soft drinks. You should be able to get about six to eight glasses out of each bottle of champagne or wine and about ten to twelve glasses from each bottle of sherry. The type of food you serve and the length of your wedding reception may also influence how much alcohol you will need to allocate for each guest.

The catering will probably be one of your biggest expenses. Whether you choose a caterer provided by the venue or chosen independently by you or your wedding planner, the food should be sampled first. Most couples decide on caterers already available in the reception venues so trying the food or even having a glimpse at the kichen should never really be an issue. It is very likely that vanue caterers will already have wedding packages and drinks may also be included in the package. You may try to save some money by suppling your own alcohol to the event and pay a corkage fee (paid to the venue staff for opening bottles). Depending on the size and splendour of your planned reception you might also be able to save money by buying your alcohol in France
