Witnesses to Marriage

Legally you need two adults to witness your marriage and sign their names in the register. In the eyes of the law these two individuals are the most important people after the bride and groom, notice these are not the parents of the couple. If there is someone you would like to include in your wedding day who doesn’t fit into any of the traditional roles, such as a step-parent, grandparent, close friend or uncle, it might be nice to offer them the job of a witness. It may also be diplomatic and smart to ask someone from each side. In most cases siblings of the bride and groom make the most popular choice for marriage witnesses.
